I started using shotcut several years ago, and since then have never looked back. It only continues to get better. Don't be fooled by its quiet startup, every feature you need is there, but it doesn't overwhelm you with a cluttered interface.
Free and open source for Windows and Linux. I don't know why this one doesn't get mentioned more, but I never see it on people's "Great Free Software" lists. I think it should be at the top.
