Hard Disk Utilities

Victoria for Windows offers an impressive amount of detail and options for analyzing and fixing your hard drives.

HD Sentinel has useful free version and a paid version that has monitoring and alerting.

I also like HDD Scan, as it indicates the speed of disk operations.  I use it to test a disk before adding it to a cluster.  Some disks pass all tests, but nonetheless are slower than other disks, and HDD Scan allows you to weed those out.

Keep your computer awake with Mouse Jiggler or Caffeine

Mouse Jiggler simulates a mouse movement at a regular interval to prevent your Windows PC from going to sleep.

Caffeine simulates a keypress at a regular interval to accomplish the same.

I prefer Mouse Jiggler, as Caffeine's default keypress of F15 inserts a ~ character in my ssh sessions.  I read this thread about fixing it, but switching to Mouse Jiggler is simpler.
