PL2303HXA Phased out since 2012. Please contact your supplier (SOLVED)

I have a USB to serial adapter that started showing "PL2303HXA Phased out since 2012. Please contact your supplier" in Device Manager.  This is because it is a copy of the Prolific chipset.

How to Fix

  1. Download and install the driver from link below.
  2. Go to device manager > Right click device > Update driver
  3. Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer
  4. Select "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port Version 3.3.2.105 [27/10/08]" from the list
  5. Voila! A working usb-serial adapter again.
